Peaslee Neighborhood Center Launches Read in Color in Cincinnati

By Sarah Nelson

Recently, Peaslee Neighborhood Center expanded our Read in Color program to Cincinnati, Ohio with an event to celebrate the launch. Peaslee Neighborhood Center is a member of the Fall 2025 Read in Color cohort.

Peaslee Neighborhood Center is a peaceful place in Over-The-Rhine where residents create and engage in participatory education to foster creative expression, self-determination, and social change. Peaslee’s multifaceted programming focuses on music education, community education, and service learning alongside social advocacy.

“Read in Color promotes the message that all stories, voices, and identities matter. We are so excited to be part of bringing this
message to our community!” said Liz Gottmer, Communications Coordinator, and Shelia Jefferson, Receptionist & Program Outreach Coordinator.

The Read in Color initiative has launched in 25 U.S. cities to date, from New York and Washington, D.C. to Atlanta and Phoenix, with plans for even greater expansion this year. More than 250 Read in Color Little Free Libraries and 50,000+ diverse books celebrating Black, Latinx, Asian, Indigenous, LGBTQ+, and other important voices have been shared so far. Learn more and sign the Read in Color pledge!
