Read in Color has expanded in Philadelphia! Philadelphia Global Shapers, part of the Spring 2025 Read in Color cohort, has brought our diverse books program to a wider audience in Philly.

The Philadelphia Global Shapers are a group of young volunteers who implement projects to drive positive social and environmental outcomes in the Philadelphia metropolitan area. The group is part of the Global Shapers Initiative, an international network of young people advancing specific objectives through dialogue and action.
One of the organization’s core objectives is Creating Inclusive Communities, which they are excited to do through the Read in Color program.
“It was an honor to attend the Philadelphia Global Shapers’ Little Free Library ribbon-cutting event,” said Daniel Gumnit, CEO of Little Free Library. “Their passion and commitment to community are truly inspiring. Thanks to their efforts, children and families across Philly will have greater access to books that reflect and celebrate their diverse experiences.”

The Read in Color initiative has launched in 23 U.S. cities to date, from New York and Washington, D.C. to Atlanta and Phoenix, with plans for even greater expansion in the future. More than 250 Read in Color Little Free Libraries and 50,000+ diverse books celebrating Black, Latine, Asian, Indigenous, LGBTQ+, and other important voices have been shared so far.
