Welcome, Daniel! We are pleased to announce the appointment of Daniel Gumnit as our new Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer. In this role, Daniel will lead Little Free Library’s mission to be a catalyst for building community, inspiring readers, and expanding book access for all.
“On behalf of the Board of Directors, I am delighted to welcome Daniel Gumnit as our next Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer,” said Nancy Wulkan, Chair of the LFL Board of Directors. “His passion for literacy, education, and community-building; demonstrated commitment to advancing equitable access to books; and track record of transformative leadership make him the ideal person to guide Little Free Library into its next chapter.
“As ED and CEO, Daniel will lead LFL’s dedicated team as we seek strategic opportunities to expand programs, support our incredible library stewards and other volunteers, harness technology, and forge new creative partnerships to amplify our impact across communities worldwide,” Wulkan added.
Daniel brings extensive leadership experience in the nonprofit sector, having served in executive roles at People Serving People, Twin Cities PBS National Productions, Children’s Cancer Research Fund, and most recently, Minnesota Alliance With Youth. Prior to his work in the nonprofit sector, Daniel led television and digital media firms that served Fortune 500 and international entertainment companies.
“I am honored to join Little Free Library and its remarkable global community of stewards, volunteers, and supporters,” said Daniel. “Through the simple act of sharing books, stewards open doors of possibility, inviting children, families, and entire communities to discover the joy of reading and the power of connection.
“As we build on this momentum, I look forward to working with our exceptional team and visionary partners to expand our reach and deepen our impact. And I eagerly anticipate getting out into communities to further LFL’s vital mission,” Daniel added. “Our work—providing 24/7 book access; granting Little Free Libraries to underserved urban, rural, and Indigenous communities; and championing diverse books—has never been more urgent.”
Daniel attended Macalester College, is a graduate of the University of Minnesota, holds an MBA from the University of St. Thomas, and was a Policy Fellow at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs.
Daniel’s appointment comes shortly after we celebrated a major milestone: 200,000 Little Free Library book-sharing boxes installed worldwide.
