Little Free Library’s Impact Library Program provides no-cost Little Free Library book-sharing boxes to underserved communities where they can make a meaningful impact on book access and literacy engagement. This month we heard from two stewards who were previously granted libraries through our Impact Library Program and wanted to share their stories.
Additionally, we granted 10 Impact Library Packages to applicants from schools, libraries, and nonprofit organizations in January 2025. These new Little Free Libraries will be expanding book access from Reading PA, to San Jose, CA, and many areas in between! “Since building the library, there has been a constant stream of books going in and books going out. I left an autograph book in there for people to sign in and there has been multiple entries showing their gratitude. It’s been a joy being a steward at my Little Free Library on Fern!”

“In 2023, we partnered with Wisconsin Housing Preservation Corporation to install libraries in five affordable housing complexes in the Madison area to provide book access to their residents. We work alongside our community partners, which include neighborhood centers and schools to identify areas to increase book access. We have a network of volunteers who support us by delivering books to the existing libraries on a regular basis and hosting book drives to provide books for the libraries. We also have a partnership with Madison Area Builders Association and Boys and Girls Club of Dane County to assist with repairs and construction as needed.”

“Our Little Free Library here at TTNC has helped our neighborhood with promoting literacy, making sure all of our students and families have access to books at all times and it has also helped with inspiring literacy in our community. … I love seeing the neighborhood kids picking out books and hearing them say to friends what books they have already read. It makes my heart happy!” -Angie R.
“We had 5 Little Free Libraries (LFL) installed at our low-income family properties around the Madison area. … We really appreciate being able to provide this feature for our residents and their children. MRP is such a great partner and we hope to do more with them in the future!” -Lindsay G.
“West’s Little Free Library was immediately embraced by the West and Regent Neighborhood communities! The starter books from Madison Reading Project we put out were immediately taken. We see new, different books out there from readers, so it still has a good stock. We also heard a lot of compliments on the beauty of the mosaic work on the LFL right away! It has been a good experience all around, from decorating it, to planting it, to filling it, and we are very proud of this project.” -Beth H.
