Impact Library Program Steward Stories, July 2023

By Sarah Nelson

Little Free Library’s Impact Library Program provides no-cost Little Free Library book-sharing boxes to underserved communities where they can make a meaningful impact on book access and literacy engagement. This month we heard from two stewards who were previously granted libraries through our Impact Library Program and wanted to share their stories.

Additionally, we granted 28 Impact Library Packages to applicants from schools, libraries, and nonprofit organizations in July 2023. These new Little Free Libraries will be expanding book access from Fort Worth, TX to Muncie, IN and many areas in between! Learn more about where we’ve placed Impact Library Program awards over the years.

“Our little free library has given the community access to free books for children and adults in English and French. We engage with our community using different platforms from the local newsletter where we wrote a small article every month to social media. As well as host events where we get to meet our neighbours. Due to our location, during the summer months we provide to cabin traffic. We have made connections with homeschooling families and reached out to school teachers to help with their classroom libraries. We also enjoy sharing our books with other libraries around us when we travel.”

“My LFL is located outside of client choice food pantry and serves to nourish the minds of our guests. Also, we are close to a daycare and at least once month the LFL is a field trip destination! Access to books is needed in every community.”
