Little Free Library Week

Help us celebrate Little Free Library’s birthday! Little Free Library became a nonprofit on May 17, 2012, launching our journey to make books accessible to everyone. This year, May 17 has been declared National Little Free Library Day, making this milestone even more special. We’re celebrating with a full week of activities from May 17–23, 2026! Here are four ways you can get involved.

1. Share a Book: Celebrate with us by sharing a book in a Little Free Library! This simple act can spread joy and spark a love of reading. Find a book-sharing box near you by downloading our free Little Free Library mobile app.

2. Enter Our Photo Contest: We want to see photos of you and your favorite Little Free Library book-sharing box! Submit your photos by using the hashtag #LFLweek on social media to be eligible for prizes. Learn more about the rules and prizes, and get some great photo tips below.

3. Show Your LFL Love: We’ve got some fun graphics you can download and share on social media, as well as a sign you can print and hang in your Little Free Library window! Download them below.

4. Play Little Free Library BINGO: Get out and explore the book-sharing boxes in your neighborhood while connecting with your community, and share a photo of your completed BINGO card to enter our photo contest!

Any F1 racing fans? 🏁New to the LFL is Driven by susie_wolff! This is one I immediately added to my personal tbr. Thank you littlefreelibrary for the opportunity to share! #LFLweek

Blurb: As a young girl, Susie Wolff dreamed of one day racing Formula One cars―the fastest in the world, reaching speeds of over 200 mph. But F1 was completely dominated by men. The sport is grueling both mentally and physically. Turning a corner can feel like four times your body weight is pressing against you. And the question always hovered: Could a woman really compete with the men?

After years of sacrifice and doubt, Susie rose through the ranks to earn her spot behind the wheel of an F1 car. She became the first woman in more than two decades to take part in a Formula One race weekend. But her story didn’t end at the checkered flag. Shifting to the business side and inspired by her husband, Toto, who runs one of the most successful F1 teams in history, she led her own Formula E team to championship contention. In 2023 she took over the leadership of F1 Academy with the mission of bringing the next generation of young women into the sport.

Driven is a thrilling story about the highest levels of driving―but more than that, it’s a story of perseverance bound to inspire anyone on or off the track.

Photo Contest

We will randomly select 25 participants to receive a $50 gift card ThriftBooks! To enter, simply post your photo on social media using the hashtag #LFLweek.

Rules of entry:

  • Open May 15-25, 2026
  • Enter up to 10 photos (note: Instagram stories are not eligible)
  • A registered Little Free Library with a charter sign must be featured in the photo

  • By entering your photo, you give Little Free Library permission to use it
  • Open to all! You do not need to be a Little Free Library steward to participate
  • You must be following Little Free Library on the platform where you post

Photo tips:

  • Show joy at a Little Free Library! — Who can resist a cute photo? We love seeing Little Free Libraries get hugs—and all the joyful moments they inspire. Don’t forget to capture your adorable visitors, too! With permission, share photos of happy kiddos with books, or even furry friends stopping by for a visit. And of course, we’d love to see you in a photo alongside your library!
  • Clean your lens — Before you even take a photo, clean the lens of your camera! This will ensure that the image is nice and clear.
  • Take advantage of good light — Avoid shooting directly into the sunlight; this will make your subject very dark. We live in a digital world so don’t be afraid to snap a ton of photos to get the one that’s just right.
  • Embrace negative space — The pros say ⅔ of your photo should be negative space. “Negative space” simply refers to the empty space around the subjects of your photo. When you include this empty space, your subject stands out in the photo even more.
  • Avoid zooming in — When you zoom in from a distance, your photo can appear grainy, blurry, or pixelated. Instead, take the photo from a distance and crop the image once you’ve taken the photo. We love seeing your whole library with a bit of background! Don’t stand too close to your library when photographing it. Give it some distance for a spectacular feature.

Todd H. Bol Awards for Outstanding Achievement

Little Free Library’s late founder, Todd H. Bol, believed strongly in the power of individuals (and especially Little Free Library stewards) to change the world through acts of kindness.

We hear stories every day of outstanding stewards who repair others’ little libraries; who have created networks of book-sharing boxes; or who work tirelessly to strengthen the sense of community in their area.

Recipients of the 2026 Todd H. Bol Awards for Outstanding Achievement will be announced during Little Free Library Week!
