Help us celebrate Little Free Library’s birthday! Little Free Library became a nonprofit on May 17, 2012, launching our journey to make books accessible to everyone. We’re turning our organization’s nonprofit birthday into a week-long celebration May 14-20! Here are four ways you can get involved this week.
1. Share a Book: Celebrate with us by sharing a book in a Little Free Library today! This simple act can spread joy and spark a love of reading. Find a book-sharing box near you by downloading our free Little Free Library mobile app.
2. Make a Gift: Your gift to Little Free Library supports our mission to be a catalyst for building community, inspiring readers, and expanding book access for all through a global network of volunteer-led Little Free Libraries. Donate today!
3. Submit Your Little Free Library Photos: In honor of Little Free Library Week, we want to see photos of your favorite Little Free Library book-sharing box! Submit your photos by using the hashtag #LFLweek on social media to be eligible for prizes. Photos shared on Instagram will be featured in an Instagram wall on this page and may even appear on Little Free Library’s social media or in an upcoming email newsletter. Learn more about the rules and prizes, and get some great photo tips here.
4. Show Your LFL Love: We’ve got some fun graphics and gifs you can download and share on your social media accounts, as well as a sign you can print and hang in your book-sharing box! Download them here.

A great Little Free Library find, this was a twisty mystery with shady rich friends, social climbers, old secrets resurfacing, and an extremely guilty-looking husband.

The Troy Street Little Free Library is up and open! Thanks to everyone who came out last Sunday to cut the ribbon with me. We had 36 neighbors and friends attend, with many more visitors this week. I’m overwhelmed by the love! Special thanks to dakotapawlicki for doing the hard work of getting the library up and secure, to missdanimac for the library structure, and to ffdaindy for helping me promote all week. I also appreciate lyonssusan60 and John for helping to host! I hope to see Indy friends at the library soon! 🧡 #lflweek

“Today a reader, tomorrow a leader.”

Our Charter Sign came in the mail yesterday! #166282 is almost ready to launch! 📮
A little bit about our location📍 :
Our neighborhood, Highland Ridge, was built in the 1980’s to accommodate for a growing area (formerly all pine flat woods and marsh) as factory workers and snowbirds began moving to North Port. Today, Highland Ridge skirts the Sarasota/Charlotte County line and is comprised of a multigenerational, multiethnic, working class community. You can’t go a day without hearing pickle all games at the neighborhood park or watching boat launch at the nearby docks.
Hurricane Ian caused massive destruction across Highland Ridge and, as we rebuild, we hope the #littlemyrtlewoodlibrary will add joy and the accessibility of books 📚 to our community.

The dedication of a little library to our son could not have been more perfect. It was our intention to find the light in the sorrow, & we did not have to look far; Love is all around. Joseph was pure love & we see & feel the work he is doing to fill in the cracks & put us back together by surrounding us with people who were like him. With gratitude, we are thanking our friends who couldn’t attend but were sure to send books or celebrate Joey in their own way, mrshossisboss sisiarzola, itsveronica2.0 , janicetheboss; Our friends and loved ones who always show up & their presence mattered so much lilicio, marisaciofiac1, xxh4ted1xx, cecelia_gonzalez; Our loving pastor johnrbowman, his even more loving wife & MIL laurislorena31, & our championsclubs family Elisabeth for blessing the library & also all making a long drive; All of our sweet neighbors for attending & bringing books, especially sesentirphotography for putting together the lemonade stand & getting some sweet captures; The GOAT, our film Director but most importantly our framily squarerootof9 & his wife for making a 6+ hour round trip just to hug us again in person & be present; To littlefreelibrary for manufacturing a charter especially to match the aesthetic of our neighborhood to garner the HOA’s approval; The elmigroup for making it a point to stop by and show love on a crazy busy weekend for her kids, & finally, the best for last, for my beautiful & supportive sister cousin amandamaravelas by SURPRISING us & flying in the for the DAY, you made this a million times more special. Everyone wants to always do something big for God, but showing up for people is the smallest but biggest thing you can ever do. Community and family are everything. We love you so much, Joey. 🤍🪽🫂🫶🏽📚 #littlefreelibrary #lflweek

With the end of the #lflweek celebration we would like to thank our book providers: marcus_pointe_thrift_store and Escambia County Early Learning Coalition.

I missed Little Free Library Week by a day — but libraries aren’t as concerned about late fees these days, right?? 🤪 This one is right down the street from me and I visit it often. You can guess what I put in there today! 🤘🏻💰 #lflweek #littlefreelibrary #littlefreelibraries #littlefreelibrariesofinstagram #milfordct #ctauthors #ctwriters #booklovers #metalheadmoney #payitforward littlefreelibrary

Stop 9 on my #littlefreelibrarytour is feeling very whimsical ✨
It’s the perfect place to grab a book and go read in the woods or a park. I’d recommend grabbing this library’s copy of The Path Home 🍃
The Path Home is available wherever books are sold. Visit the link in my bio for more details!

Introducing the newest littlefreelibrary in the world! I’m wildly happy about this little blue addition to our property. Here’s to spreading love through books. #lflweek

Photo Contest
We will randomly select 25 participants to receive a $50 gift card to Better World Books! To enter, simply post your photo on social media using the hashtag #LFLweek.
Rules of entry:
- Open May 7-20, 2023
- Enter up to 10 photos (one Instagram post can include up to 10 photos)
- A registered Little Free Library must be featured in the photo
- Use the hashtag #LFLweek
- By entering your photo, you give Little Free Library permission to use it.
- Open to all! You do not need to be a Little Free Library steward to participate.
Photo tips:
- Show your Little Free Library some love! — Who can resist a cute photo?! We love seeing Little Free Libraries get hugs. And don’t forget to show your cute visitors! If you have permission, we love seeing happy kiddos with books and even cute pups visiting Little Free Library book-sharing boxes. And of course, we’d love to see you in the photo with your library!
- Clean your lens — Before you even take a photo, clean the lens of your camera! This will ensure that the image is nice and clear.
- Take advantage of good light — Avoid shooting directly into the sunlight; this will make your subject very dark. We live in a digital world so don’t be afraid to snap a ton of photos to get the one that’s just right.
- Embrace negative space — The pros say ⅔ of your photo should be negative space. “Negative space” simply refers to the empty space around the subjects of your photo. When you include this empty space, your subject stands out in the photo even more.
- Avoid zooming in — When you zoom in from a distance, your photo can appear grainy, blurry, or pixelated. Instead, take the photo from a distance and crop the image once you’ve taken the photo. We love seeing your whole library with a bit of background! Don’t stand too close to your library when photographing it. Give it some distance for a spectacular feature.
Todd H. Bol Awards for Outstanding Achievement
Little Free Library’s late founder, Todd H. Bol, believed strongly in the power of individuals (and especially Little Free Library stewards) to change the world through acts of kindness.
We hear stories every day of outstanding stewards who repair others’ little libraries; who have created networks of book-sharing boxes; or who work tirelessly to strengthen the sense of community in their area.
Recipients of the 2023 Todd H. Bol Awards for Outstanding Achievement will be announced during Little Free Library week!
