Impact Library Program Steward Stories, November 2024

By Sarah Nelson

Little Free Library’s Impact Library Program provides no-cost Little Free Library book-sharing boxes to underserved communities where they can make a meaningful impact on book access and literacy engagement. This month we heard from two stewards who were previously granted libraries through our Impact Library Program and wanted to share their stories.

Additionally, we granted 16 Impact Library Packages to applicants from schools, libraries, and nonprofit organizations in November 2024. These new Little Free Libraries will be expanding book access from Sterling, VA, to Colville, WA, and many areas in between! Learn more about where we’ve placed Impact Library Program awards over the years.

“It is a mobile library and is located inside Lindbergh Elementary School. Lindbergh is a small neighborhood school on the north side of Madison. The Little Free Library will serve the families and students that attend the school. A number of years ago, there was an outdoor Little Free Library in an adjacent park, but it experienced repeated vandalism and had to be removed. School staff was thrilled with the option of an indoor library so that students could still access books. They plan on moving it outside during community and family events.”

“I can’t thank you enough for the support you’ve given us through the Little Free Library Impact Program. It truly means the world to us and the families at The Palms Apartments. This library is going to make a real difference, one that goes beyond just books. It’s about providing access to new opportunities and creating a spark for learning, growth, and community right where people live. We recently updated the name of our subproject to the Multi-Family Housing Literacy Initiative.”
