10 Little Free Libraries in Gorgeous Warm-Weather Locations

By Margret Aldrich

Are you stuck in winter’s polar vortex, dreaming of flip flops instead of snow boots? If you’re like us, you’re also dreaming of Little Free Libraries in steamy climates and tropical settings. Here are ten warm-weather Little Free Libraries that we’d love to visit (like, right now):

1. Little Free Library #66646, Muscat, Oman

In 2018, the first Little Free Libraries were established in the country of Oman. This sunny book-sharing box is especially inviting.

2. Little Free Library #55093, Half Moon Bay, California

This incredible surfboard Little Free Library was built by the Institute for the Study of Knowledge Management in Education from found art and repurposed materials.

3. San Francisco, Nayarit, Mexico

Maravilloso! A Little Library in Mexico is attached to the wall outside a residence called Casa Oceana.

4. Little Free Library #52316, Kailua, Hawaii

A driftwood handle and whimsical paintings of local wildlife, books, and breadfruit—a symbol of abundance—adorn this Little Free Library found on the island of Oahu. (Did someone leave their flip-flops behind?)

5. Little Free Library #46878, Khartoum, Sudan

Malaz Khojali started a Little Library revolution in Sudan, starting with this cheery library and bench. Now there are dozens of Little Free Libraries in her community.

6. Little Free Library #49946, Poway, California

Surf’s up! This replica of a classic Woodie wagon plays the Beach Boys’ “Surfin’ USA” when you open the top.

7. Little Free Library #64042, Binunsaran, Camiguin, Philippines

This not-so-Little Library is set in a lush and green area of the Philippines. The Binunsaran Little Free Library was dedicated on November 15, 2018, and holds more than 5,000 books.

8. Little Free Library #33903, Waianae, Hawaii

Ka Waihona o ka Na’auao Public Charter School hosts a Little Library created from a retired newspaper box. The nearby bench invites readers to sit and stay awhile.

9. Little Free Library #15752, Key West, Florida

The Green Parrot Little Free Library, located outside a bar in the island city of Key West, features doors painted with books like “Tequila Mockingbird” and “Gone with the Gin.”

10. Little Free Library #7349 in Te Aroha, Waikato, New Zealand

At this rural New Zealand town’s Little Library, perched atop a fence at the community garden, Kiwis can pick up a book as well as some homegrown veggies.

Bonus! Little Free Library #44461, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

This dreamy Brazilian “Livro Livre” is perched high above the sea, overlooking a beautiful vista. We think we’ll grab a good book and head to the beach.
