As a retired school librarian, I know how empowering it is for students to see themselves represented in the books they read.
I want to help the children to lead us toward peace and justice with equity.
We are putting up a little free diverse library in the spring! It’s built and ready to go!
Our neighborhood of Ypsilanti, Michigan is both very under-served, underprivileged, and struggling in the education system and because of pandemic shutdowns. I would love to have more diverse books to share, as many of my donations come primarily from white people.
We are in the most ethnically diverse section of Malden, MA and it is important for our residents that they have book offerings that reflect our community.
Our LFL is for kids only. From the beginning, I offered books featuring diverse characters. We are across the street from one of the most diverse (and lowest income) schools in our city so with COVID, especially, it’s been important to offer lots of books to our neighbor kids.
