I’m already doing this. I’m learning a lot from such books as “Coming of Age in Mississippi” by Anne Moody, & Robin DiAngelo’s “What Does It Mean to Be White?” DiAngelo is illuminating about the many elements of cultural beliefs. I also enjoy discovering different books for children & YA.

I believe in inclusion and diversity and hope to see a more inclusive and diverse workforce and student population that would also bring about a decrease in crime. I want to empower people and believe we are stronger as a community and stronger when we act together.

As a literacy expert,I believe books are windows and mirrors and kids should see themselves represented in a positive light in books! Diverse literature is necessary to building inclusive communities!
My mother was a librarian and, obviously, encouraged me to read -everything. She told me at a young age that the only way to understand others is to read what they write. She was right.
