Apply to be a Read in Color Partner
Read in Color aims to amplify diverse books at a grassroots, community level. Twice yearly, we open applications to organizations interested in participating in a Read in Color cohort. If selected, you may receive more than $10,000 in support from Little Free Library to increase access to diverse books in your community. The application for the Spring 2025 Read in Color cohort is open—apply today!
What is involved in being a Read in Color partner?
Read in Color partners are responsible for installing Little Free Library book-sharing boxes (provided by Little Free Library) in their communities and stocking them with diverse books. They identify stewards for these little libraries, who they support continuously. Read the full description of responsibilities.

Read in Color partners receive Little Free Library packages that include up to 10 brand-new Little Free Library book-exchange boxes, installation materials, Read in Color launch packs, $7,500 in book support, and $1,000 in reimbursement for a launch event or associated activities.

Read in Color® aims to help distribute books that share different perspectives on race and social justice, as well as literature by BIPOC, LGBTQ+ and other marginalized voices. By reading diverse books, we believe a more inclusive future can grow.
The foundation of this program rests with you, our network of Little Free Library stewards and supporters, to bring this initiative forward. Our goal is to provide a robust selection of diverse books to every steward who wishes to participate. Together, we will work toward a more unified, empathetic, and understanding community.
