How to Install a Little Free Library Post

Learn how to install your Little Free Library on a wooden post. Follow along as we show you how to get the library post in the ground and mount a Little Free Library on top. We will break down the tools needed and walk through each step. Let’s install a Little Free Library!

Tools Needed

  • Little Free Library post
  • Little Free Library
  • Drill
  • 2 ½ inch lag screws
  • Shovel
  • Tape measure
  • Level
  • Optional:
    • Post hole digger
    • Tamper

Be sure to get permission from the property owner before you install your Little Free Library, and call your local digger’s hotline to get underground utility lines marked. That will help you pick a safe spot to dig and install your library post.

Post Installation Instructions

  1. Dig a 2-foot deep hole that’s about 1-foot wide.
  2. Center the post in the hole
  3. Fill the hole with dirt, tamping as you go
  4. Check that the topper is level with the ground
  5. Center the library on the topper
  6. Secure the library to the topper using 2 1/2 inch lag screws
  7. Map your library and begin sharing books!
