Impact Library Program Steward Stories, October 2024

By Sarah Nelson

Little Free Library’s Impact Library Program provides no-cost Little Free Library book-sharing boxes to underserved communities where they can make a meaningful impact on book access and literacy engagement. This month we heard from two stewards who were previously granted libraries through our Impact Library Program and wanted to share their stories.

Additionally, we granted 20 Impact Library Packages to applicants from schools, libraries, and nonprofit organizations in October 2024. These new Little Free Libraries will be expanding book access from Fort Lauderdale, FL, to Swea City, IA, and many areas in between! Learn more about where we’ve placed Impact Library Program awards over the years.

“At Thorn Hill Education Center, we promote family literacy and education. This Little Free Library opens up more literacy opportunities to people of all ages within the community and can help teach people new concepts, encourage creativity, and give them a fun, new hobby as well. We love that parents can grab a book here to take home to read to their children. The close bond that they will share while reading together is one reason we worked hard on this library. We want that opportunity to be available for free in all communities and Little Free Library is working hard to make that happen. It is such a wonderful program!”

Ken W. — #176025 in Montgomery, AL

“This library was placed in Montgomery County’s Elton Dean, Sr. Park. Located in rural West Montgomery, which serves hundreds of residents each year. The new library will provide residents with access to books, while also serving as another amenity at this park. We look forward to seeing the library grow in usage as more residents learn about it!”
