For too long my bookshelf was filled with practically only white authors, and I never even questioned it. I am committing to read and share more diverse authors and books and to think more critically about what I am consuming (and why)!
Our goal is to keep this Little Free Library stocked with books that can be enjoyed by all ages and that represent and reflect the diversity in our neighborhood, town, and community.
I want my library to look like my neighborhood!
It’s important for people, especially children, to see characters in literature who look like them.
As the years go by, I have experienced more and more different types of diversity within my own family, so committing to diversity in literature is also a pledge to knowledge and understanding of those closest to me (and to the greater human race community).
As a teacher it is important to read diverse stories to my students that shows theirselves in the stories.
I believe in racial and LGBTQ equality and I think it can begin with books for people of all ages. So I plan to include diverse books for kids and grownups in my Little Free Library.
