We want the kids in our family and community to be able to see themselves in the stories they read!
I am getting behind the idea of promting reading for younger children and particularly the ones who are underserved.
It is important to read the stories and experiences of those who are different than me.
As a Latinx woman who reads voraciously in English and Spanish–and did the same with her two children–I feel an obligation to share these gifts with my community.
Reading expands our world and our mind and books are a great way to gain understanding about cultures and communities outside our own.
I want children to read books that have characters who look like them in it.
My intent when opening my three LFL’s was to offer diverse books for all ages. From small children, teens to adults. Showing the world as it is, telling the truth of history, seeing science, ecology, and those working to protect the constitution and education and the right to read books.
It’s the right thing to do.
