I think that reading diversely is very important for everyone to do, but I think it is even more important the diverse people to be able to see themselves in books.
Our mission statement is “Empowerment Through Literacy” at our non-profit. We help people learning to read and write, GED completion, Childrens “Read to Succeed” programs and English Second Language programs. We have learned that people will enjoy the experience if we can offer books in all colors!!
First, I believe diversity stands a chance to the other “guy” that while more lucrative, attractive, easier, relaxed, and favored young people should have something important to complete and accomplish. The correlations are better and measurable. I’m signing the Read in Color pledge to stand for something better.
Reading diverse books to see new perspectives
I want to encourage awareness and compassionate understanding of BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ histories and stories in myself and my community
I believe in the importance of knowing and sharing the lives of people that are different from me. My life has been enriched by my diverse friends, family and living within a diverse community whether I travel to find that diversity or if it is in my own backyard.
Because we area family of Hispanics and we love to see and encourage representation! Love this!
