“This project, putting up a Little Free Library, will promote the act of kindness through community service. It’s important to demonstrate community involvement to the students at Euchee Creek Elementary.”
Trina Finley is a media specialist in the school system of Grovetown, Georgia where there is no public library. She wanted to get involved and make a difference. When she found out that Little Free Library sponsors Libraries for communities in need, she applied right away.
“I am very passionate about literacy. Euchee Creek Elementary is a Title I school. Many students cannot afford to buy books, but…it’s important for students and adults to be able to take ownership of reading by being able to keep books at home,” Trina wrote.
When she received word that she would be receiving a Little Library to place in Grovetown, she excitedly started scoping the town for the best location. She settled on the Liberty Park Community Center where there is lots of foot traffic.
“I put in a variety of young adult and children’s books, but I found it interesting that most of the books being taken were the adult’s books. I thought the kid’s books definitely would have disappeared first, but it’s great to see adults using the Library as well!”
