I live in a very diverse area and want to support and celebrate that diversity in my community.
As a retired teacher of 42 years, I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to see themselves in quality literature and be able to hold those books in their hands.
Sharing stories of our difference is a way of showing how we are all alike. When we understand others we can come together with unity, justice and equality for all people.
I welcome the opportunity to participate in Read in Color. I am motivated to continue to encourage tolerance and acceptance of diversity through reading experiences.
I think it is essential for children and adults to be informed readers on issues of racial justice from the point of view of PIPOC community members.
Diversity in all aspects of life is so important…but especially with all our children and young adults. I want MY LFL to reflect that belief!
