I live in a neighborhood and city with many nationalities and when the Somali kids go by the house they never stop. I have been trying to find diverse books but it’s hard unless they’re new which I can’t afford to buy
It is important for children and families to see themselves and the community around them represented in the stories they read.
Reading from diverse sources expands our understanding and empathy for the experiences of people of color, or others who have lived experiences that are different from our own. The knowledge gained is a benefit to our communities and helps strengthen our commitment to creating a welcoming environment for everyone.
In addition to having a Little Free Library, I work in a public library and see everyday the need for diverse, inclusive reading materials for our patrons and for those who use my LFL.
