Dad-Themed Little Free Libraries Unveiled alongside NBA All-Star Events

By Margret Aldrich

We were proud to play a part in this year’s NBA All-Star events in Cleveland, alongside some stellar literacy and fatherhood champions.

Six Little Free Library book-sharing boxes were unveiled by the Cleveland Cavaliers at a special All-Star event. Each library has a “Dadication” theme to emphasize the importance fathers play in children’s literacy and to celebrate the work of partner organizations including the National Responsible Fatherhood Clearinghouse, Fathers Incorporated, Ohio Fatherhood Commission, and Cuyahoga County Fatherhood Initiative.

When dads are involved the the academic lives of their children, they fare so much better in school,” Kenneth Braswell, CEO of Fathers Incorporated and LFL board member, told WKYC News.

A ribbon-cutting for the six Little Free Libraries was held at the Children’s Museum of Cleveland. Recipients of the libraries include Kenneth Clement Boys Leadership Academy in Cleveland; Mayfair Elementary School in East Cleveland; Glendale Primary School in Bedford; Shalom & Tranquility Garden in Cleveland; and I Promise School in Akron (pictured below). The sixth library will remain at the Children’s Museum of Cleveland, to support its Cuyahoga County Fatherhood Initiative.

To help keep the Little Free Libraries stocked, the LFL organization will ship a monthly supply of father-related books to each of the six locations to inspire local dads to have fun reading with their kids.

Show your “Dadication” to literacy by reading with your child, visiting a Little Free Library, or even starting one of your own! Learn how.

Special thanks go to LFL board members Margaret Bernstein and Kenneth Braswell for making the NBA Allstar events such a success!
