Children’s Book Week, a long-time running children’s literacy celebration, is a perfect time to focus on how important books are for children and what Little Free Library is doing to get more books into their hands.

We know that having books to read – at home and in the classroom – is the number one predictor of reading success. But the reality for many children from low-income families is that books are an unaffordable luxury at home. In fact, in some areas of the U.S. there’s only one book for every 300 children. The situation is even worse elsewhere in the world.

Little Free Library is changing this outlook by putting thousands of Little Free Libraries full of books from which low-income families can take books home to enjoy. Your support of this Kickstarter will help us serve even more communities worldwide this way.

We hear over and over that children’s books go quickly from the shelves of Little Free Libraries and that it can be a challenge for our stewards to keep up with the demand.

That’s why we’re excited to announce a partnership with First Book, an international nonprofit that provides access to free and low-cost new children’s books and educational resources for low-income families. Stewards of Little Free Libraries that serve low-income families will be able to fill their shelves with reading materials from First Book.

Little Free Library and First Book coming together means more children and communities will achieve reading success. Happy Children’s Book Week indeed!
