Across America With Little Free Library

Past Tours

Why Go Across America?

In just four years, the nonprofit Little Free Library has helped open over 40,000 book exchanges cared for by dedicated volunteer stewards. We’ve reached every U.S. State and Canadian province, plus 70 other countries around the world. Now, we want to reach 100,000 Little Free Libraries by 2017. Our Across America tours aim to help spread the word about Little Free Libraries, and plant book exchanges in neighborhoods around the country.

We completed the first leg of the Across America tours in September 2015, followed by a tour across Iowa in October 2015. In the spring of 2016, we traveled through Texas, spreading the word and donating Little Libraries. For more information on each stop of our past tours, see below.

September 11 - 27, 2016 - Alabama to Washington D.C.

Little Free Library Founder Todd H. Bol spread the word about Little Free Library from Wisconsin to Alabama, and then across the Southeast to Washington, D.C., ending at the Library of Congress’s National Book Festival.

Along the way he stopped at historic locations of the Civil Rights movement and visited with community leaders and law enforcement to share how Little Free Library book exchanges can have a role in bringing neighborhoods together. He also met with groups of volunteer stewards to share what’s new with the Little Free Library organization and learn about their hands-on experiences.

Read our press release for the tour overview.

“The invitation to the National Book Festival provides an opportunity to visit our supporters in the South,” notes Bol. “We’ll introduce our new Peace Pole Libraries; talk about our programs such as Kids, Community, and Cops, Action Book Club™, and Books of Understanding; and describe how to support our Impact Fund.”
