Little Free Library Week

Help us celebrate Little Free Library’s birthday! Little Free Library became a nonprofit on May 17, 2012, launching our journey to make books accessible to everyone. We’re turning our organization’s nonprofit birthday into a week-long celebration May 11-17, 2025! Here are four ways you can get involved this week.

1. Share a Book: Celebrate with us by sharing a book in a Little Free Library! This simple act can spread joy and spark a love of reading. Find a book-sharing box near you by downloading our free Little Free Library mobile app. New this year: Share your favorite Little Free Library with your friends and family! Open the mobile app, tap to view your favorite library, then tap the share icon in the upper right.

2. Make a Gift: Your gift to Little Free Library supports our mission to be a catalyst for building community, inspiring readers, and expanding book access for all through a global network of volunteer-led Little Free Libraries. Donate today!

3. Submit Your Little Free Library Photos: We want to see photos of you and your favorite Little Free Library book-sharing box! Submit your photos by using the hashtag #LFLweek on social media to be eligible for prizes. Photos shared on Instagram will be featured in an Instagram wall on this page and may even appear on Little Free Library’s social media or in an upcoming email newsletter. You can even submit photos of your completed Little Free Library BINGO card! Learn more about the rules and prizes, and get some great photo tips below.

4. Show Your LFL Love: We’ve got some fun graphics you can download and share on social media, as well as a sign you can print and hang in your Little Free Library window! Download them below.

It's #LFLweek so visit your neighborhood #littlefreelibrary and find a new favorite book. 📚 Also, who agrees that Lorelei and Rory would have *definitely* had a LFL in front of their house of the idea had existed back then haha!
It’s littlefreelibrary week! 📚📖📚 It’s been so fun to see WILL’S RACE FOR HOME in your neighborhood libraries! #lflweek
A few new items!

Two books I won through Goodreads..

A Clean Mess

A Husband Out Of This World.. and there is an envelope in it which I did not open. It's a gift for whomever picks it up.

There are some children's workbooks and coloring books for children and adults.

Enjoy!

It’s Little Free Library Week! I’m celebrating with some new books in the library, including this book that I haven’t read yet but has gotten rave reviews from many of my friends: Babel by R. F. Kuang.

We’re also sharing Little Free Library BINGO cards - a fun, free family activity to enjoy during this beautiful spring weather. If you take a photo of your completed BINGO card and post a photo on social media with the #LFLweek hashtag, you could win a ThriftBooks gift card!

I’m especially excited that my book bundle from librariesforliberation arrived this week! I’ll be sharing these diverse books with Little Free Libraries throughout my community during #LFLweek.

In honour of #LFLweek here is another! This was found on the same walk with my sister last weekend. I picked up Sea Gate from this one.

What kind of books do you tend to find in LFLs❓
Medli is waiting for someone to come get a book.

Hurray for Little Free Library Week!

🎉

Little Free Library became a nonprofit May 17, 2012, launching a journey to make books accessible to everyone, so it's a week-long birthday celebration of global book gifting May 11-17!

📚

You can join in even if you don't have your own LFL: download the mobile app and share a book in a LFL, donate to Little Free Library so they can continue their book outreach, or take a photo of yourself with your favorite LFL and post with the hashtag #lflweek. There's even a fun bingo card you can print out to do, and there are prizes for all of it! Go to littlefreelibrary for details.

🎁

What an excellent excuse to completely clear out my own beloved Little Free Library and fill it with fresh books. Check it out! I hope you have a great day, with a book in it somewhere.

Photo Contest

We will randomly select 25 participants to receive a $50 gift card to ThriftBooks! To enter, simply post your photo on social media using the hashtag #LFLweek.

Rules of entry:

  • Open May 9-19, 2025
  • Enter up to 10 photos (note: Instagram stories are not eligible)
  • A registered Little Free Library must be featured in the photo
  • Use the hashtag #LFLweek
  • By entering your photo, you give Little Free Library permission to use it.
  • Open to all! You do not need to be a Little Free Library steward to participate.

Photo tips:

  • Show your Little Free Library some love! — Who can resist a cute photo?! We love seeing Little Free Libraries get hugs. And don’t forget to show your cute visitors! If you have permission, we love seeing happy kiddos with books and even cute pups visiting Little Free Library book-sharing boxes. And of course, we’d love to see you in the photo with your library!
  • Clean your lens — Before you even take a photo, clean the lens of your camera! This will ensure that the image is nice and clear.
  • Take advantage of good light — Avoid shooting directly into the sunlight; this will make your subject very dark. We live in a digital world so don’t be afraid to snap a ton of photos to get the one that’s just right.
  • Embrace negative space — The pros say ⅔ of your photo should be negative space. “Negative space” simply refers to the empty space around the subjects of your photo. When you include this empty space, your subject stands out in the photo even more.
  • Avoid zooming in — When you zoom in from a distance, your photo can appear grainy, blurry, or pixelated. Instead, take the photo from a distance and crop the image once you’ve taken the photo. We love seeing your whole library with a bit of background! Don’t stand too close to your library when photographing it. Give it some distance for a spectacular feature.

Little Free Library Bingo

Celebrate Little Free Library Week by playing an updated version of Little Free Library BINGO! Get out and explore the book-sharing boxes in your neighborhood while connecting with your community.

Want to win? Snap a photo of your completed BINGO card, and post it on social media with the hashtag #LFLweek during the LFL Week Photo Contest, May 9-19. You could be one of 25 participants to win a $50 gift card to ThriftBooks.

Todd H. Bol Awards for Outstanding Achievement

Little Free Library’s late founder, Todd H. Bol, believed strongly in the power of individuals (and especially Little Free Library stewards) to change the world through acts of kindness.

We hear stories every day of outstanding stewards who repair others’ little libraries; who have created networks of book-sharing boxes; or who work tirelessly to strengthen the sense of community in their area.

Recipients of the 2025 Todd H. Bol Awards for Outstanding Achievement will be announced during Little Free Library week!

Community Events

Attend one of the events across the U.S. and Canada to mingle with fellow stewards and Little Free Library fans! Use the map below to find an event near you.
